Saudi move for Man City goalkeeper Ederson gains momentum

Will Ederson be leaving Manchester City in the summer?

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson may be bound for Saudi Arabia this summer.

First Kevin De Bruyne announces leaving Man City after the season and then so does Bernardo Silva, openly entertaining offers from other teams. Now, it looks like Ederson could be following suit as he explores the possibility of new directions with Al-Ittihad.

Word has been getting around that the 31-year-old has been in talks with coach Laurent Blanc, Saudi Pro League coach for Al-Ittihad. Blanc has his eye on the prize both domestically and continentally next season and he believes Brazilian shot stopper Ederson could be the key to unlocking that success.

The Manchester City star has built a career and established a reputation for himself in the City appearing a whopping 365 times across all competitions ever since joining the club in 2017 when he was just 23. Now, after nearly 8 years, with Man City experiencing a challenging (to say the least) 2024-25 season, especially in comparison to their dominance displayed in recent years, Ederson looks to be the next one to move on from the City life.

So who’s going to be the next one to move into the blue half of the city this summer? Man City have been said to be eyeing Diego Costa who captains Primeira Liga club Porto. But word on the street is that Manchester United also have an eye on the Portuguese goalkeeper.

Speaking to Brazilian media back in October in reference to the summer market of 2024, Ederson himself confirmed, “There really was a proposal [from Saudi Arabia] on the table, something that weighed heavily, because it was an unusual proposal.”

He continued, “I had countless conversations with [Pep] Guardiola, and one was essential. But from what he told me, the guarantees, the process, the evolution I had with him… All of that was essential for me staying at Manchester City.”

Will he? We'll see.
