Emiliano Martinez is one of the world’s most decorated goalkeepers. Across all domestic and continental competitions, Martinez has developed an impressive track record in both silverware and performances, widely becoming considered one of the globe's best.
After hiring super-agent Jorge Mendes, it was exclusively revealed by Football Insider in May that Martinez is ready to leave the Midlands club, even though he is under contract with Aston Villa until the summer of 2029. With an estimated market value of around 20 million euros (according to Transfermarkt), there is a crowd of clubs waiting at the door for the opportunity to snatch up the Argentine shot stopper.
According to British newspaper The Telegraph, the newest contenders in the race for the Aston Villa goalkeeper are Atletico Madrid, who are preparing to compete with the several Saudi clubs who have already shown interest after flirting with the idea of Argentine Martinez between their goalposts.
Manchester United have also been said to have a strong interest in snagging the 32-year old World Cup winner, and though recent reports had suggested that Martinez was keen on a move to Old Trafford, that might no longer be the case. Football Insider claims that Martinez has his heart set on new prospect, Atletico Madrid, where he can reunite with compatriot Diego Simeone.
It remains to be seen whether Emi will decide to stay put at Villa Park for the time being or pursue one of the interested options.
